Dolph Andrus’s Monumental Highway Carving
Dr. William Hopkins with a chisel, near Red Lake Trading Post.
Chris Curley family who located the carving.
Dolph Andrus woke early one morning of the expedition and carved the words “Monumental Highway” into the side of a butte near Red Lake Trading Post. According to Andrus, when Hopkins saw it he insisted that a picture be taken of him holding the chisel. Over ninety years later, Dolph Andrus’s son, Berwyn, commissioned the help of Chris Curley to find the carving. Curley’s efforts were successful and he sent Berwyn the evidence in this photo.
